Who We Are?

About us

A non-profit, non-partisan society whose principal members are practicing radiologists.

Registered in April 1973, the Kenya Association of Radiologists is the voice of Radiology and Imaging practice in Kenya.

The association has seen a steady increase in its membership in the last few years due to increased interest, technological and medical advances, and the expansion of the radiology training opportunities. There are residency programmes; at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine (UON).

With 100 members and 50 associate members, the societies core functions are advocacy, policy formulation and education. The society works closely with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council, The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union as well as the Kenya Medical Association to serve the health care needs of the general public ensuring quality and safety through policy regulation and legislation. KAR provides professional support to its members and also coordinates scientific, professional and educational activities collaborating with fellow international societies such as the European Society of Radiology and the American College of Radiology.

vision

To be the guide and leader in the practice of radiology, influencing medical policy, training, research and innovation to better serve our patients and society through empowering members.

Our Mission

To promote best practices and safety, education, research, innovation and policy in medical imaging aimed at addressing the imaging related healthcare needs of the Kenyan public.

The KAR is particularly active on three fronts:

We work with government

Health professionals and technology leaders to make optimal use of diagnostic imaging. Our goal is to ensure the right tests are performed the right way and interpreted the right way.

Voice of Kenyan radiology

We also serve as the voice of Kenyan radiology so that governments, the public and news media are fully informed about the benefits and risks of diagnostic imaging, the challenges we face and the solutions we propose.

Accredit and promote opportunities

We create, accredit and promote opportunities for continuing medical education and research, helping radiologists stay at the leading edge of diagnostic imaging health care.

Our values

We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of care, promoting patient safety and helping our members contribute to the very best health care for patients.
